More Details About Our Harmonic Layering Process
This information is provided for visitors
who are interested in very in-depth details regarding our
harmonic layering process. Because of the high level of
complexity involved in the technology, we recommend that
visitors read the rest of our Brainwave
Technology section to familiarize themselves with how
binaural audio technology works before approaching the technical
details contained in this section.
The difference between our harmonic
layering process and the "harmonic matrix" or "harmonically
layered frequencies" used by other companies:
When most companies refer to a "harmonic
matrix" or use the words "multi layering" or "harmonically
layered frequencies", they are referring to a very
simple and unsophisticated method of layering binaural frequencies.
That type of method is quite easy to reproduce and is not
at all like the complex and sophisticated harmonic layering
process used in our audio technology, which is why it is
important to us to make the distinction.
Don't
be fooled by imitations. Most of the methods
used by other companies are not even truly harmonic. They
simply use the word because they think it sounds catchy. Our CDs
are the only products using true harmonic layering.
How the "harmonic matrix" used by other companies is produced:
In the type of harmonic matrix used
by other companies, there are typically any number of "layers"
or pairs of frequencies. Rather than a single pair of frequencies
used to trigger a binaural beat, they use multiple pairs
of frequencies. For example, one of their soundtracks might
contain one pair of frequencies at 200Hz and 205Hz (to trigger
a 5Hz binaural beat), another pair at 230Hz and 235Hz (for
the same 5Hz binaural beat), another pair at 270Hz and 275Hz
(again, for the same 5Hz binaural beat), and so forth, all
playing simultaneously within the same track. Occasionally,
a company will also vary the amplitude of one pair of frequencies
to make it stronger than the others. That process of using
various pairs of frequencies is what most other companies
refer to as a "harmonic matrix" or "harmonically layered
frequencies".
There is, of course, nothing musically
harmonic about their process at all and the word "harmonic"
is simply used — or misused, in that case —
because multiple layers of frequencies are being used.
How the Immrama Institute's harmonic
layering process works:
Our harmonic layering process is, by its very nature,
much more complex. Our technology involves multiple layers of frequencies blended
together in a very precise and specific manner. Our process does not involve
selecting a few random pairs of frequencies and layering them as in the example
above, and also does not involve using a few pairs of frequencies and making one
pair stronger than the rest. In our harmonic layering process, the frequencies
are arranged very precisely, subtly shifting throughout the entire course of
each track to maintain specific harmonic combinations as the track progresses.
Our harmonic layering process has its foundation in the principles of music
science. Each frequency corresponds to specific musical "notes". Frequencies
may be blended together in a harmonic manner in the same way musical notes may
be blended together to create a harmonically pleasing composition. Just like
some musical notes blend harmoniously with each other while others clash with
each other and produce an unpleasant sound, frequencies may also be combined
with each other to result in harmonious combinations. At every fraction of
every second throughout the audio on our CDs, the frequencies are precisely
engineered to be harmonic according to the truest sense of the word.
Even though the binaural frequencies are placed beneath the sounds of natural
rain, and are embedded at a very low audible level and therefore not heard
out loud in the same manner music would be heard, the brain still responds more
effectively to binaural frequencies that are blended together in a harmonically
pleasing way that is soothing to the ear and mind. This enhances the
effectiveness of the audio technology, allows your brain to resonate smoothly
and comfortably with the binaural beat, improves the process of whole brain
synchronization, and enhances the overall experience by actively engaging many
areas of the brain rather than a select few areas.
In our harmonically layered audio, the frequencies are not only selected based
on the binaural beat they will trigger when combined with each other. They are
also selected based on their harmonic relation to every other frequency being
used in the audio at that particular moment. Finding the appropriate combinations
of frequencies — combinations that would allow the frequencies to not only create
the desired binaural beat but also simultaneously maintain the proper harmonic
ratios — was an extremely complicated process that took us quite a bit of
experimentation and a considerable amount of time to develop.
Why is the process so sophisticated and complex? Adjusting
just one frequency out of the entire group of frequencies
essentially requires adjusting every other frequency as
well in order to maintain the proper harmonic ratios. Since
the frequencies must be constantly adjusted from moment
to moment to trigger the desired binaural beat — which
changes over time during each track in order to guide the
brain into the proper state — when one frequency is
changed, every other frequency must also be changed along
with it, with each frequency shifting up or down in tiny
increments to remain harmonic. At the same time, each layer
of frequencies must be oriented toward the appropriate brainwave
state, which creates a delicate balance that must be maintained
in order to preserve both the harmonic aspect and the brainwave
aspect. Every moment of audio on our CDs was created using
this method.
In addition, because our audio incorporates multiple layers
of frequencies to stimulate the brain on multiple levels,
each group of frequencies in each layer must be evaluated
in order to ensure it does not conflict harmonically with
any other group of frequencies in its own layer or in any
other layer. All the groups and layers of frequencies shift
in amplitude as well, fluctuating up and down at various
points throughout the track, but never during the course
of any track of audio is one group of frequencies selectively
higher than all the rest. There are always multiple layers
of frequencies at any given amplitude, in order to stimulate
the brain on multiple levels simultaneously.
Our harmonic layering process is something we have never
seen in any other binaural product, and we have thoroughly
studied every other binaural product we have encountered.
We consider our technology a truly unique and innovative
approach to binaural audio technology, and its level of
efffectiveness in listeners has definitely proven its value.
