Do I need any special equipment to listen to your audio technology?

The CDs must be listened to through headphones or earphones in order for the technology to have an effect, but any headphones or earphones with a frequency range of 20Hz–18,000Hz or better will work just fine. If you do not already own headphones or earphones, most inexpensive headphones or earphones (under $15/pair) can reproduce a range of 20Hz–20,000Hz or better, so you will not need to purchase expensive equipment in order for the audio technology to be effective. Inexpensive headphones and earphones capable of handling a broad range are available in large retail stores such as Best Buy or Wal-Mart and through many online retailers such as Amazon.com. If my headphones can only play frequencies as low as 20Hz, how can I hear a 7Hz Theta frequency or a 2Hz Delta frequency or the low frequency of any other binaural beat?

The binaural beat frequency is actually created by your brain, not heard through the headphones. For example, if a 100Hz frequency is played in the right ear and a 107Hz frequency is played in the left ear, your brain will create a binaural beat of 7Hz, the difference between those two frequencies. Can I play the audio tracks on my MP3 player instead of playing them in my stereo or portable CD player?

We don't recommend converting the audio tracks to MP3 format because the compression process can interfere with the brainwave technology on the CDs, but converting the tracks to an uncompressed format such as WAV or AIFF is perfectly fine. When an audio track is converted to a format like MP3, the audio is compressed to make the resulting file smaller. During that compression process, certain bits of audio are clipped and some of the quality is lost. Because most of the binaural frequencies on the CDs are located in the highest and lowest ends of the spectrum, and because the precise combinations of frequencies play such an important role in the effectiveness of the CDs, any clipping that occurs in those ranges can reduce the overall effectiveness. When converting normal music tracks, the missing data isn't as noticeable to the listener, but with tracks that contain binaural frequencies, any missing data can cause a noticeable difference in the effects. You can convert the CD tracks to WAV or AIFF format (or any other format that isn't compressed), and the files will be larger than MP3 files but the audio quality will be retained and you won't lose any of the effectiveness.

How does the audio technology work?

Our audio technology uses harmonically layered frequencies to trigger specific brainwave states and patterns when listened to via stereo headphones. These brainwave states help to enhance clarity and concentration, improve mental and emotional well-being, improve sleep and physical health, and bring about many other positive benefits. The technology also triggers neural development, providing more "processing power" for the brain. Why do you use the sounds of rain on the CDs?

The sounds of rain are used to mask the sound of the binaural frequencies and to provide the most pleasant listening experience possible. In addition, it has been proven that masking the binaural tones with a form of white noise such as rain enhances the effectiveness of the tones. Please see our Sound Samples page for more details. Our recordings use the sounds of natural rain recorded live in various locations. On the Insight CD, the sounds of rain are also specifically arranged to enhance the listening experience by deepening the meditation even further. On the Focus CDs, the sounds of rain are arranged to heighten levels of focus and concentration without acting as a distraction for the listener.

Are there any other sounds or voices on the CDs?

There are no vocals or subliminal tracks on the CDs. There are only the frequencies that make up the brainwave technology, and the binaural frequencies are set at a level just below the sound of the rain.

Can the CDs be used by children?

The Focus CDs were designed for use by people of all ages and are completely safe for children. Many of our customers are parents who have purchased the CDs for their children to use while studying or doing schoolwork. With the Insight CD, certain benefits such as increased self-awareness are not as evident in young children because they do not yet have the maturity needed to evaluate their levels of awareness in that manner, but the CD can be effective in areas such as increasing relaxation. It can also be used as a tool to teach young children meditation and relaxation techniques.

Do I need to use the Insight CD and the Focus CDs together in order to obtain the benefits?

No, the Insight CD and Focus 2-Disc Set work independently and are used for different purposes. You do not need to use both products in order to obtain the benefits of one product or the other.

What happens if I fall asleep while listening to the Insight CD?

When you initially begin using the Insight CD, it is very likely you may fall asleep while listening, even if sitting upright in a comfortable chair or on the floor. This is a normal occurrence and is a result of the audio technology taking your mind and body into a profoundly deep state of relaxation. Over time, you will begin to reach a point where you are able to remain awake throughout the listening session if you choose.

Can I listen to the Insight CD while I sleep?

You may listen to the Insight CD while awake, for relaxation or incredibly deep meditation and exploration of consciousness, or listen while drifting off to sleep at night, for dream exploration or simply a more refreshing night's sleep. The long-term benefits of listening to the Insight CD will be more evident if the CD is used while you are awake. If desired, you may listen to the CD while awake and relaxing at an earlier point during the day, then play the CD while drifting off to sleep as an added listening session, but we recommend that your primary listening session take place while awake and sitting upright or reclining comfortably.

If the audio technology puts me in a deeply relaxed altered state, will I be able to "wake up" quickly in the case of an emergency?

Though the audio technology puts your mind in a deeply relaxed altered state, you will be able to easily rouse yourself into an alert waking state in the case of an emergency. In a situation like that, your brain will quickly reset itself into a natural "high-alert" brainwave pattern. In addition, heightened chemical releases occurring in your brain as a result of the situation — adrenaline, for example — will work to immediately shift your brain into an alert state.

Can I listen to the Insight CD while I do other things?

The Insight CD should not be listened to while you are performing other tasks or doing other things because the deeply meditative effect will be diminished. We recommend you listen to the Insight CD while sitting comfortably with your eyes closed. If you prefer, you may listen while sitting on the floor in a traditional meditation posture, but doing so is not required. You may also combine your use of the Insight CD with other meditation, relaxation, or visualization practices. You should never listen to the Insight CD while driving or operating machinery.

How often should I listen to the Insight CD?

You may listen to the Insight CD more often than the suggested 24-minute minimum session, but listening should be limited to no more than two-and-a-half hours per day.

The CD is composed of three separate tracks. Each track is 24 minutes long. You have the option of listening to only Track 1 (called Journey) once per day for a 24-minute listening experience, or listening to multiple tracks combined for a longer listening experience.

During each listening session, you should always listen to Track 1, Journey, first. The Journey track guides your mind into a deeply relaxed meditative state. Track 2, called Exploration, and Track 3, called Insight, both begin in a deeply meditative frequency range and therefore should only be listened to after you have listened to Track 1 completely. You should never listen to Track 2 or Track 3 first since the effect will be diminished.

Does your Insight Program involve purchasing multiple levels or additional CDs, or is only one CD required?

The Insight CD is a standalone CD rather than a program with multiple levels. Our proprietary harmonically layered audio technology allows you to use much deeper frequencies without having to spend as much time easing yourself into using them, so a multi-level program and additional CDs are not required. Insight CD listeners begin using very deep frequencies right from the start, triggering the same type of neural growth and development found in many of the expensive multi-level programs, but listeners are able to continue achieving ongoing results with one CD rather than purchasing multiple levels. Because our audio technology is specifically engineered to produce long-term benefits and results, you won't need to purchase additional levels to continue experiencing new results.

Can I listen to the Focus CDs while I do other things?

The Focus CDs were designed to be used while you are performing other activities. They may be listened to while working, studying, reading, exercising, or while involved in any other activity requiring enhanced concentration, clarity, attention, focus, or creativity.

Do I need to listen to the entire track to get the benefits?

The tracks are designed with long running times (ranging from 22 to 72 minutes) in case you would like to read, work, study, or exercise for a long period of time, but you do not need to listen to a track in its entirety to obtain the benefits. You may listen to only a portion of the track if you'd like, though we recommend listening for at least 20 minutes in order to obtain the best results. You can also repeat/replay the tracks several times if you'd like to listen while working or reading for several hours straight. The frequencies were arranged with continuous peaks to keep you as focused as possible if you need to concentrate for long stretches of time.

How often can I listen to the Focus CDs?

You may listen to the Focus CDs as often as you like, whenever you desire enhanced concentration, attention, clarity, and focus. Listening to the Focus CDs for several hours during the day will not have any adverse side effects. Because the tracks heighten your alertness, we recommend not using the Focus CDs during the hour prior to going to bed.

Do the Focus CDs provide long-term benefits?
